February 4, 2015

I know it’s been just a few days since I posted, but a lot of junk has been going on. I got a super bad oral infection, missed a bunch of work, made an ER trip and had surgery.

Blah, blah, blah.

That really isn’t that important. What’s important is the fact that my niece has officially made her entrance! 😀

Miss Gracie Ryon was born on January 26th and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

And the best part? She’s a little ginger! 😀 😀 😀 All I’ve ever wanted in life is a red-headed niece or nephew. My brother-in-law (who has DARK red hair and a million freckles) finally came through for me. Thank you, Payton!

I haven’t got to meet her since they live in Texas and I’m stuck in Arkansas until Spring Break, but I do have pictures!

Here you go :

She’s so adorable! I am one proud aunt, you guys.

January 24, 2015

Today was another full day of conversations that were basically all about… German Shepherds.

Yup. We’re literally that sad.

But at least we decided that we do want a boy, so that’s pretty great 😀

We actually went to a few places in town toady and picked up a few really simple things. Since I have, you know, real bills and not a shit ton of money, it’s easier for me to buy a few things here and there instead of trying to everything all at once. The only thing we’ll probably have to buy before he comes home is food, treats, etc. No sense in buying food forever before anything is going to eat it.

I decided to use this post to chunk a little bit of my wisdom out there.

As I will tell anyone at any time, I fully believe in planning. And pre-planning to be completely honest. Planning to bring home a new puppy is something I usually have to explain all the time. As I handle the business side of our breeding (answering emails, talking over the phone, etc.), I often have to help our customers with things such as, “Which toys would you buy?”, or, “How do you feel about rawhide?”

Ughhh… Don’t even get me started on the insane hazards of rawhide…

Anyway, I decided to just go ahead and do a little post about the basic and essential toys that are always the first things I purchase for a new puppy. That’s what I did today. Just a little bit of stuff, probably less than twenty bucks.

Here we go:

First of all, I really do think stuffed, plushy toys with squeakers are the most important toys you can buy for a dog. They keep them very entertained, whether they’re actually squeaking them, or figuring out how to tear them apart. Now, I will tell the truth, if your dog is what I generally call a “destroyer”, they WILL tear them apart. However, not all puppy dogs are destroyers, so it’s not a guarantee that it’ll happen. My Cavaliers really don’t tear their toys apart at all, but the Chihuahua will massacre any stuffed thing he can find. Which usually consists of the Cavaliers’ toys… So, today, I bought just a couple of stuffed toys for our soon-to-be GSD. It’s as simple as a decent sized armadillo with a squeaker and an odd, long, crinkly-sounding blue dog. Bam. Plushy toys. Success. Just remember to always remove any and all tags from the toys, not just the price tags, but the fabric “made in China” (or wherever) tags as well. I prefer to buy my stuffed toys from Walmart. They’re cheap and of better quality than you’d probably expect. Sometimes dog-specific stores (Petco, Petsmart, etc.) are a little… Over-priced on their plushies.

Second, I always like to grab things to catch/chase. This is as simple as tennis balls (which come in a wonderful array of sizes these days) and frisbees. Now, keep in mind that most dogs will figure out something to do with a tennis ball, but you’ll have to train a dog to play frisbee. Otherwise, they’ll just chew on it and the plastic isn’t good for their tummies. Also, make sure that you buy appropriately sized tennis balls. If you have a Saint Bernard, it would probably be smarter to buy a larger-than-average tennis ball, so they don’t swallow it. They also make very small tennis balls now, but these are not always the best idea. If you have, like… Chihuahuas and only Chihuahuas, maybe they’re not a bad idea, but if you have, say, a German Shorthaired Pointer and a Scottish Terrier, you want to buy regular sized balls. Avoid buying small balls if you have any bigger dogs at all. That is a CRAZY choking hazard. Purchase for their adult size, not their puppy size. They’ll only be babies for a blink of your eye. Most of the time, PetSmart sells (regular sized) tennis balls and frisbees for only .99 and that’s what I grabbed today.

And last of all, I like to grab rope toys. They make several different kinds now, so I got two different kinds today: a regular, but longer than some rope bone and this really cool thing that has two big knots on either end. These are just good to have around the house because it gives your dog something to pull at, gnaw on, and something to carry. It’s that simple. Also, if you have more than one dog, they WILL play tug-of-war together, which is always a lot of fun to watch. I actually grabbed the plain rope bone at my local dollar store, then got the other at Walmart.

Just because I think all doggies should have their own blanket, I also purchased a decent sized, super soft throw blanket. We always send our puppies home with a blanket that smells like their litter mates, so I try to buy one ahead of time to send to my breeder. This way, my pup won’t have as much anxiety during their transition into our home. It’s dark green and blue plaid 😀 I love it.

Now, I do have a few more things I intend on grabbing before we bring him home. I also really like hard rubber, knobbly toys and chicken-flavored Nylabones. They make them for puppies and adults and I’ve learned that most dogs ADORE them. I’ll talk more about those when I actually pick them up.

So, that took a while to type up, holy cow.

I do have a bit more to talk about before I wrap this up tonight though. Sorry, hope you don’t mind reading.

Since we decided that we do want to get a boy, I took another look at my “top ten name list” and put them in order of preference. Here’s that list! 😀

10.) Stoli

9.) Django

8.) Roach

7.) Denali

6.) Otto

5.) Freddo

4.) Shaker

3.) Navarro

And then, there’s Danzig and Zucco. I can’t actually decide which of these I like the most, so I’d probably choose between these two once I’d seen pictures of and met our little (but one day, very large) guy. Jarrett nodded as if these might be acceptable, so that made me pretty excited. We shall see!

Thank you so much for reading all this 🙂 I hope you found even a bit of it sort of informational. G’night!

January 22, 2015 : 2

So, while I was typing up my last post, I was texting N&W BF and he decided that it would be perfectly fine for me to post his name, add pictures, etc. which, of course, I’m happy about because where’s the fun in posting about my life, if I can’t talk about or show pictures of the people I spend all of my time with? 🙂

Anyway, the important information is…

His name is Jarrett. And he’s fantastic. Here’s a picture.

He’s hilarious, smart, tattooed, sweeter than damn sugar, laughs and smiles all the time…

… Knows more about firearms than anyone I’ve ever met… His knowledge on the subject might be equal to my knowledge of dogs.

WOW, that’s just nuts.

Honestly, just being around him makes me happy. That isn’t something I’m used to. He gives me a warm, comfortable feeling that I’ve never had before. Sometimes, it makes me want to poke him in the eye. It’s a bit scary… I think he understands that though, which is very nice as well.

That is all I’ll say about him right now. I’m sure I’ll end up posting a million other things about him, so why waste all the good stuff at this moment? 😀

January 22, 2015

Just to inform all of you, in case I haven’t, I have no wifi at my house currently. That is definitely the reason for the lack of posts here, for your information. Now… On to the junk.

I am stinkin’ excited. Very, very, very much so. I have two really awesome things to tell everybody.

First of all, my family and I (that being my mother, father and myself as well as the new and wonderful boyfriend) have begun the plans for our vacation this summer. Now, this may not sound that exciting to some of you rich douchebags out there who actually got real vacations your whole life. What I have to say to all of you is.. Eff off.

Anyway… Our “family vacations” usually consist of three days in the charming tourist trap that is Branson, Missouri. Needless to say, that gets old and quickly. This year, I convinced my dad to stop being a wimp. I told him that we own a timeshare, for the universe’s sake, we need to use it! He FINALLY agreed and this girl will be going to Vegas this summer. (WHOO!)

Now, some might ask, “why in the world would going to Vegas with your parents be any kind of fun?” Well, to be honest, my parents aren’t sticks in the mud. My mom and I have been planning on hitting every bar on the strip (although I haven’t quite convinced her that the trip to Thunder Down Under is necessary. It’ll happen before we go though, I’m sure.) and my dad has been trying to convince N&W BF (as he will be called until I have permission to use his name. I keep forgetting to ask…) that a burlesque show is definitely something they should look into together.

What will actually end up happening is LOTS of drinking (I’m SO EXCITED for that part…) and a couple of shows. I’m thinking Zarkana (Cirque du Soleil, of course) and the Blue Man Group, which I’ve actually seen before, but would LOVE to see again. No one is disagreeing with me about those shows, so it’ll happen.

We’re also planning a day trip to the Grand Canyon, which will be pretty cool. I’m looking forward to the fantastic photography that will take place, for sure.

As it’s only January and we won’t be going until the last week of July, everything isn’t set in stone yet. I’ll definitely update things as we get everything more planned out. It’s going to be great! But for some reason, I feel the need for a new wardrobe for the trip… I don’t think my usual hippie garb would play out there as well as it does at home…

The second thing I’m stupidly excited about is a new furred addition to my tiny household. However, the new addition is not actually here yet. Nor is it actually even born…

As anyone who has read any of my posts might know, my family breeds Cavalier King Charles spaniels. Therefore, I am very comfortable with breeders and by proxy, buying puppies through breeders. I don’t like having questions that can’t be answered about my dog and (good) breeders can tell you EVERYTHING about their genetics, temperament, etc. I love it.

Obviously, I hope that you can gather that this means I’m planning on getting a new puppy through a breeder. Maybe I made that clear…

N&W BF and I have decided that (since we are both sensible and intelligent people) that we will not move in together until we’ve been together for a while. So far, so good. Although, I do miss him quite a bit when he leaves at night. Being alone has never been my strong suit. But, I deal. Oh,well.

Moving on!

We have decided that at the end of the year (perhaps at the beginning of next year), we are going to purchase a German Shepherd. We joke that it’ll be our “one year anniversary present”.

(I will pause here and explain something. Yeah, I get it, I’ve been dating this guy for a little less than a month now. You probably rolled your eyes at that last statement and called me an idiot. That’s cool, I get you. BUT, it isn’t something you have to understand. Maybe it’s because I had my eye on him for so long, or maybe it’s because we’ve been through so many similar situations… I can’t tell you why he’s different, why he’s better than any man I’ve met. And there have been quite a few. I will tell you this, due to illness and things of that sort, this past month has been hell. It’s that simple. He has been there more for me in that small time period than any male I’ve ever allowed to stick around. In situations where most “boys” would run with their tails between their legs, he has shown such… Care and for no reason except that he wanted to. That is… Special. He is not the kind of person you come across every day and he’s DEFINITELY the kind of man you’d want to be with forever. Maybe he won’t get tired of me, hm? I really do talk a lot…)

Now, I grew up with a beautiful Shepherd named Charidy. She was a 6th birthday present for me and stayed with my family until this past summer. She passed away a few months shy of her 16th birthday. It was gut-wrenching and painful, but she lived a long, happy life and that’s all we ever wanted for her.

When she passed away, I thought I’d never even be able to see another German Shepherd without it hurting. As time has gone on, I’ve definitely missed seeing that gorgeous girl.

It just so happens that N&W BF has always wanted a GSD as well, so it just seemed to fit.

I have done what I am always so good at and found a fantastic breeder who is shockingly very close to home. I’ve spoken with them over the phone and we are both comfortable with purchasing one of their BEAUTIFUL babies. (We even plan to go visit them and meet their dogs in a couple of months.) Of course, it won’t be for a while, but that won’t stop me from planning my little ass off. I feel so sorry for N&W BF, he simply doesn’t understand what he’s getting himself into…

So, it looks like I’m going to be getting a deeply (and wonderfully) pigmented red and black, long-coated German Shepherd in a year’s time or so (MAYBE LESS!) 😀 He even said we could pay the extra fee to have pick of the litter! Holy shiz, I could pee I’m so excited!

And being the person that I am, I’ll end up buying most of the things I’ll need to bring home a new puppy in the next couple of months… I used to have a stockpile, but I have since given all of my supplies to people who’ve purchased puppies from my family… I LOVE BUYING NEW PUPPY SUPPLIES! It’s actually pathetic…

Whoo… Well, I’m going to end this here. As time goes on (and the more excited I get), I’ll definitely post updates on these plans. I hope you’re all looking forward to it as much as I am 😀

Post Script : Meh. We’re not going to Vegas. My heart isn’t broken. If we go on vacation, we’ll b going to New Orleans, Louisiana. I’d honestly prefer that anyway. We’ll see how this plan turns out, hm?

January 6, 2015

I know it’s a few days late, but oh well.

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, I’ve changed a few things around here. The main thing being the name of my blog, of course. I decided that I don’t want my blog to focus on anything but, well, me.

Not too much has changed besides that though 🙂 So I’ll just keep on moving forward.

As I shortly stated in my last post, [XXX] and I broke up on December 1st. I managed to hide myself away from the world for a month. It was rather… Nice. I hadn’t had alone time like that in quite a while. I missed myself, haha.

However, on December 23rd, I got a very strange friend request on Facebook…

Let’s pause there.

*Flashback Mode*

When I first got hired at my job, I noticed this guy. I saw him from across the floor. He was tall, leather-clad, tatooed, and bearded… My ideal man was right there. Needless to say, I asked a friend of mine about him. Sadly, I was informed that he had a girlfriend. About two months later, I started dating [XXX].

Yadda, yadda, yadda.

*End Flashback*

Obviously, it was that guy who added me on the Book of Faces. Being blunt like I am, I straight up asked him why he felt the need to add me.

Come to find out, he had noticed me just as I had noticed him. I seriously couldn’t believe it. We actually hung out the very next day over Waffle House (since it was Christmas Eve and nothing else was really open).

We have spent time together every single day since, even if we only sit in his car and talk after he gets off work.

I won’t go into detail about how great I think he is, or how handsome, etc. It’s none of your business. I’m just… Taking everything one day at a time, hoping that nothing between us changes. He is… Very different from the guys I normally date and I definitely think that’s awesome. He’s actually… Nice and has REAL manners. Do you have any idea how rare that is?

I won’t tell you his name until I get his permission to put it online. I’m sure he won’t care, but that’s how I “roll”, you know?

I hope you enjoyed this little glance into my life, you guys. Thank you so much for staying loyal. 😀
